The Oxford Group

Challenging convention, challenging thinking

Our approach to Executive Coaching has been developed through years of experience in this field and is built around the following principles:

  • Focused on measurable results and outcomes
Our best practice coaching programmes ensure that objectives and measures of success are agreed early in the process and that there is a clear evaluation process.
  • Business focused
We work hard at understanding the organisational context and appreciating the coachee’s ‘world’. In addition, we use real work ‘critical incidents’ as the basis for many of our coaching discussions. This keeps coaching immediately relevant to the business and new practices and habits can be quickly visible within workplace.
  • Challenging thinking
We challenge the coachee’s way of thinking and looking at the world so that they can start to see new ideas and approaches. Our challenging is robust, and we recruit coaches that have the confidence and presence to ‘meet the coachee’ on their own terms
  • Practical and action oriented
Our coaches are committed to action. We ensure that ideas and discussion are converted into practical action, and we encourage experimentation so that we have a fertile ground for learning.
  • Supportive
We recruit coaches with a high degree of business experience, empathy and interpersonal sensitivity. They offer the subtle balance of tough challenge combined with deep support where required.
  • Non-formulaic
We have recruited experienced coaches who draw on a varied background of professional training to apply the approach they feel is most appropriate. Therefore their approach is coachee-centred and not dominated by a formulaic method. In this way our coaches act as role models to support the learning process.
  • Content
Our approach focuses on enabling the individual to learn for themselves. Our coaches’ style is questioning and facilitative, and we strive to add even more value by offering tools, models, reading references, feedback and other aspects of 'Content' wherever it is required.
