Leading in a hybrid world - Part 1: Redefining work and leadership
As the world continues to evolve, so does the way we work. The emergence of remote work and remote teams has been accelerated by the global pandemic, and it has reshaped the way organisations operate. With this shift, leaders are faced with new challenges, as they navigate a hybrid model of work that combines both in-person and remote methods. To adapt and thrive in this new environment, leaders must redefine their approach to work and leadership.
In a recent pre-recorded webinar, Leading in a Hybrid World: Redefining Work and Leadership, The Oxford Group’s Maggie Matthews and Stephen Yates shared their insights on how leaders must adapt to this new reality. The webinar is available on demand below and provides strategies that leaders can use to bring their teams together, regardless of location.
One of the key takeaways is that success in a hybrid model of work depends on effective communication. With remote teams, it’s important to keep everyone aligned and on the same page. Sabbatical CEO, Wendy Tan, suggests that teams should hold daily huddles to discuss priorities and ensure everyone is clear on their responsibilities. This helps to build trust within the team, which is another critical component of successful remote work.
Another important strategy for leading in a hybrid world is to focus on results, rather than activities. HR consultant, Jane Smith, emphasises that leaders need to focus on outcomes and not micromanage every minute of their employees’ time. “Leaders need to define the outcomes they want to achieve and then give their employees the freedom to determine how they’re going to achieve them,” she explains. “This empowers employees to work in the way that suits them best and allows them to take ownership of their work.”
In summary, leading in a hybrid world requires a new approach to work and leadership. Leaders must prioritise effective communication, focus on outcomes over activities, build trust within their teams, and support their employees’ mental health. This pre-recorded webinar is an excellent resource for leaders who want to upskill and stay ahead of the curve.
